DUTCH FOR MOTHERS
Mama in Nederland
Mama in Nederland is a 10-hour Dutch language journey for international mothers raising their children in the Netherlands. The course centres around core parts of motherhood: settling misunderstandings during playdates, disagreeing with a teacher about methods or expectations, discussing friendship troubles with other parents, setting boundaries with relatives about screen time or bedtime, asking clear questions at the doctor’s. Practise motherhood in Dutch with other mums like you.
JANUARY COURSE STARTS 7 UNTIL 30 JANUARY EVERY WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY
FEBRUARY COURSE STARTS 2 UNTIL 25 FEBRUARY EVERY MONDAY & WEDNESDAY
WHY DUTCH FOR MUMS
Your child is growing up playing and speaking Dutch with their friends, learning about conflict, cooperation, and belonging, both at school and on the playground. And when you want to help your child in these moments, or talk to other parents or the teacher, you need the right Dutch to express yourself. In a small, supportive group of four mums, you’ll learn just that.

IK BEN EMMA
Originally from the Netherlands with Irish roots, I moved to Spain nine years ago without speaking a word of Spanish. Since then, I’ve become a mother and found myself raising a multilingual daughter while learning to navigate daily life in a country that isn´t my own.
I studied Spanish seriously, but I couldn´t always keep up; parent-teacher meetings often left me guessing, and I struggled to step in when my daughter had problems with her friends.
My experience of living abroad and raising a child across languages and cultures has taught me how important it is to feel understood. That’s what led me to develop this course for mums who are trying to build a life in the Netherlands, in a new language.

PLAY & SOCIAL TALK
Learn the Dutch you need to support your child during playtime with their Dutch speaking friends. Together we will practise useful phrases that help you guide children calmly and clearly. We’ll explore how to arrange playdates with other parents, even when parenting styles are different. You’ll learn to discuss important topics such as bullying or inclusion, to help you encourage positive friendships.

TALK TO THE SCHOOL
Learn to talk with teachers, school staff, or coaches. We’ll practise understanding and talking about your child’s progress, strengths, or worries. You’ll learn how to explain things your child’s teacher should know, like behavioural challenges, concentration difficulties, or changes at home, so you can share important information and help your child get the support they need.

HEALTH
Learn how to describe symptoms at the doctor, and understand basic health-related Dutch. Together we’ll go through short conversations you might have with a doctor and practise what to say if you feel the doctor isn’t listening or if you need to ask for further tests, so you can make sure your child’s health needs are understood and taken seriously.
